“PROSPETTIVA. Journey into the archives of the Fondazione Fiera Milano” is, before being an exhibition, an immersive, almost cinematographic, experience that shows 98 years of innovations and changes within industry and society.

Stepping into the archive
Visitors were guided on a journey of discovery into the cultural heritage of our recent past, becoming witnesses to a piece of Italian and European history from the last century, and to the business memory of Milan.
The exhibition brought the public face to face with the various formats of the original documents held by the Fondazione Fiera Milano Archive, which since 2011 has been running a major campaign to digitize its collections. It was a unique opportunity to discover the extensive holdings through a highly original interactive experience between the public and the archival materials.

Beyond the exhibition
PROSPETTIVA was not just an exhibition. It was also the first important milestone of a photographic archive project sponsored by the foundation and AFIP International, in partnership with the Triennale Milano. PROSPETTIVA starts with the holdings of the Fondazione Fiera Milano Archive and involves the collection, preservation, and cataloguing of the photographic documents. Its aim is to unlock the value of what is a true cultural goldmine by opening up access to the collections via an online platform and organizing a series of exhibitions and cultural events for the public.
PROSPETTIVA was not just an exhibition. Acquisition principles
Over the next three years, the collection will be expanded through strategic acquisitions of archives of national interest and of important Italian photographers. The acquisition will coherently follow the themes already existing in the fonds of the Milano Fair Archives: fashion, design, food, manufacturing/innovation, architecture, figures, Milan and the territory will be the themes that will concern the archives to be acquired.
